Congratulations to Our Awardees!

The Village of Amityville announced the approval of eight storefront façade improvement projects in the Village who are eligible to share in $600,000 of funding from the New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). Under the program administered through the NYS Housing Trust Fund Corporation under the direction of the Office of Community Renewal, approved applicants may be reimbursed for up to 80 percent of completed storefront façade renovation costs for restoration and/or beautification to enhance the Village’s downtown.

More than a dozen small, medium and large-sized projects were evaluated by the Village’s Storefront Façade Improvement/Downtown Revitalization Committee using several criteria, including their location in the DRI zone and their potential to impact the downtown. They include: a restaurant, retail strip with deli, dry cleaner, music hall, automotive/convenience store, tea shop, thrift shop, and health and wellness service provider. Awards range from $7,700 to $76,700 for exterior elements such as siding, brick pointing, cornices, paint, awnings, lighting and signage.

“It’s very exciting! The Village is in a resurgence and these projects will give a much-needed facelift to key areas in our downtown,” said Village of Amityville Mayor Dennis M. Siry. “It was hard to narrow down where the funding would go but our committee and the support team at Vision Long Island made the process as smooth as possible.”

Vision Long Island President Eric Alexander commented on the many opportunities that the DRI grant has afforded Amityville and other Villages on Long Island, saying “The Façade improvement program is one of the State’s most impactful and visible programs. It is a win-win that supports small business improvement while also sprucing up the downtowns where they are located.”

The Façade program is one of several transformative programs under the $10 million NYS DRI initiative awarded by the Department of State to the Village of Amityville in 2023 to enhance and rejuvenate the Village downtown. Façade project funding also includes monies set aside for creation of murals and for program administration costs.
